Vietnam-Japan Online International Collaborative Learning Project: Online Fieldwork at “KIccho” (Japanese restaurant in Haiphong) (Friday, August 23)

Ibaraki University and Haiphong University in Vietnam have been conducting international collaborative education using the COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) method as part of exchange activities between the two institutions. This summer, we are visiting Vietnamese restaurants in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Japanese restaurants in Haiphong City, Vietnam, to find out (1) how Japanese/Vietnamese culture is consumed by local people in each region, (2) what strategies companies are using to gain acceptance by local people, and (3) what can be done to make Japanese/Vietnamese culture more acceptable in each region?

On Friday, August 23, ten students from Haiphong University participating in this activity visited the Japanese restaurant “Kiccho” in Haiphong City and conducted interviews. They live-streamed the interview to seven students from Ibaraki University.

It was impressive to see all the participating students listening with great interest as they got a glimpse of the strategies of Japanese restaurants in Vietnam!
