Japanese Field Studies:Shodo(Tuesday,April 22)

On Tuesday, April 22, a group of 23 exchange students enrolled in the Japanese Language Program’s “Japanese Field Studies” course participated in a calligraphy workshop led by Professor Masakazu Ito from the School of Collaborative Regional Innovation.

Professor Ito, a certified calligraphy master, provided an engaging and accessible explanation of the history of Japanese calligraphy and writing culture. During the session, students practiced the character “永” (eternity), known as a foundational character in calligraphy, and also tried writing kanji of their own choosing. With brush in hand, the students enjoyed a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy.
