Japanese Field Studies A(Tuesday, July 1st)

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, as part of the Japanese Cultural Experience program, we visited Ushiku Daibutsu with 21 international exchange students. Through the tour of the Great Buddha statue in Ushiku, Ibaraki, and a sutra copying (shakyo) activity, the students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and spiritual traditions.

Participants shared a variety of impressions, such as “I was deeply moved to see the Buddha statue in person,” “I found many similarities between Japanese Buddhism and the religious culture of my own country,” and “Visiting Ushiku Daibutsu made me feel calm and inspired.”

It was clear from their feedback that the students enjoyed learning about Japanese culture through direct experience.
