Japanese Language Education Program: “Japanese Pedagogy I” Class Exchange with Michigan State University Students (Tuesday, October 14)
In the Japanese teacher training program course “Japanese Pedagogy I” at Ibaraki University (13 enrolled students), students are engaged in a practical teaching activity this semester, working with 30 students from Michigan State University in the United States.
In the first session held on Tuesday, October 14, a needs and readiness survey was conducted to understand why the MSU students are learning Japanese and what kinds of activities they are interested in.
During the online exchange, Ibaraki University students used yasashii nihongo (simplified Japanese) to communicate with beginner-level Japanese learners. Smiles filled the screen as both sides enjoyed the interaction. MSU students actively asked questions and responded with enthusiasm, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
In the remaining three sessions, Ibaraki University students will design and implement activities based on the results of the survey.
With an 8 PM start in the U.S. and a 9 AM start in Japan, students are overcoming the time difference and embracing cross-border learning!
