Exchange Meeting between the Association of Small Business Entrepreneurs in Ibaraki prefecture and Ibaraki University(Wednesday,July 29)

On July 29, Ibaraki University hosted an exchange meeting with the Association of Small Business Entrepreneurs in Ibaraki prefecture. Approximately 20 members of the association and 10 Ibaraki University students (five international students and five Japanese students) participated in the event, engaging in discussions about business management and the future of local communities.

The meeting began with a presentation by Mr. Daisuke Yamaki, President and Representative Director of Tsukuba Foods Co., Ltd. Drawing on his own experiences, Mr. Yamaki spoke about the transition to values-based management, creating workplaces where diverse individuals can grow together, and balancing improvements in working conditions with corporate growth strategies. He emphasized the importance of building organizations around a clear management philosophy and fostering environments in which people from diverse backgrounds can thrive. Participants listened attentively to his insights and experiences.

Following the presentation, participants took part in group discussions on the theme, “What is an ideal company?” Students actively shared their thoughts and opinions, engaging confidently with business leaders. The discussions were lively and productive, with company representatives sharing real-world management challenges and experiences, while students contributed fresh perspectives and values characteristic of the younger generation. The dialogue transcended differences in age, experience, and professional background.

One particularly memorable moment came when a business leader remarked that he did not view students simply as potential future employees, but rather as partners with whom he could reflect on and discuss societal issues. This comment highlighted a spirit of mutual respect and learning, demonstrating how business leaders and students can come together as equal participants in conversations about the future of society and local communities.

The event also provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about local businesses. Through direct interactions with company leaders, students gained a deeper understanding of the philosophies, values, and aspirations that guide these organizations. Many students discovered the wide range of attractive and innovative companies operating in the region, as well as their efforts to address social challenges and contribute to local development. The experience encouraged students to think more deeply about working in the region and engaging with local communities.

The three-hour exchange meeting remained energetic and engaging throughout, providing a meaningful opportunity for participants to learn from one another through open and honest dialogue. For students, it was a chance to gain practical insights beyond the classroom, while for business leaders, it offered an opportunity to hear fresh ideas and perspectives from the next generation. Through initiatives such as this, Ibaraki University will continue to strengthen collaboration with local communities and work together to envision and shape the future of the region.
