Japanese Field Studies "Kasama Pottery Experience Tour"(Friday, June 30)

On Wednesday, June 30, we conducted a "Kasama Pottery Experience Tour" with 18 international students as part of their Japan Experience Study. As part of the class, the students learned about Kasama pottery and Kasama Inari Shrine in advance, and then participated in the field trip.

First, the students experienced the pottery making process at the Kasama City Isobe Pottery Studio, where they created their own pottery works. Students who participated in the workshop said, "I was fascinated by the tactile feeling of the clay and the process of shaping it, and felt the warmth of the handiwork.”, “The most fun is when making pottery, even though it is difficult, but I enjoyed the process and the results.”

After the pottery making experience, the students visited the Kasama Inari Shrine. All students learned about shrine etiquette in Japan in advance. Students prayed, drew omikuji, and experienced traditional Japanese culture. Students commented, "Overall, the trip is so fun and increase my knowledge about Pottery and Shrine” and “I think it was easier to understand what I saw in the actual situation because I did pre-learning about Japanese culture in advance." Students seemed to learn deeply about Japanese culture throughout enjoying the tour.
