Qualifications required for Japanese language classes

All international students enrolled at Ibaraki University (excluding auditors) may take Japanese language classes.

Japanese language class levels

Level 1
(Complete Beginners)
For complete beginners at the Japanese language.
Level 2
(Beginners)
For those who have studied Japanese language at university, etc. for 1 year or more or those who have completed the Level 1 Beginners course. Equivalent to the N4 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
Level 3
(Lower-Intermediate)
For those who have studied Japanese language at university, etc. for 2 years or more or those who have completed the Level 1 / Level 2 Beginners courses. Equivalent to the N3 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
Level 4
(Upper-Intermediate)
For those who have completed the Level 3 (Intermediate I) course. Equivalent to the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
Level 5
(Advanced)
For those who have completed the Level 3 (Intermediate I) and Level 4 (Intermediate II) courses. Equivalent to the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
Academic JapaneseⅠ (Super-Advanced) For those who have completed the Level 3 (Intermediate I) and Level 4 (Intermediate II) courses. Equivalent to the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
Academic JapaneseⅡ (Super-Advanced) For those who have the 4 Japanese language skills sufficient to take classes at university. Those who have passed the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test should take this course.
