Japanese Field Studies: Making Wagashi (Nerikiri) (Tuesday, May 15)

On Tuesday, June 4, at the Japanese Field Studies Program students of the Japanese Language Training Course welcomed Ms. Mari Uchiyama of nico nico time Wagashi Lesson and made wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets, called nerikiri.

The students made two types of nerikiri: yohira, meaning four petals of hydrangeas and otoshibumi, meaning fallen letters.

Although all students made nerikiri for the first time, they enjoyed making them with Uchiyama-sensei’s instruction. It was difficult to make nerikiri at first, but they made colorful and beautiful nerikiri in the end.

Please check the following poster summarizing the students' learning.
